We have been told that we will need to consume around 5000 calories per day when we are on the month long leg of our trek. So we thought we’d need to experiment with how we can consume so many calories in a day and we’ve come up with a brilliant way to do this…and hopefully raise some money towards our target at the same time….we’re going to hold a Sunday Tea’s and a Bring & Buy Sale in the Carnegie Hall in Sandwick. Obviously we will need to implement quality control meaures for all baked goods, so we’re pretty confident we can test what it feels like to intake this rather large number of calories.
For any one that has not been exposed to the Shetland Country side on a Sunday afternoon….Sunday Tea’s are a Shetland institution. This was brought to the nations attention last year when BBC Radio 4 visited Shetland to sample the delightful tradition of Sunday Tea’s held throughout Shetland’s country public halls. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00mf27d
The Sunday Tea’s & Bring & Buy Sale will take place on Sunday 22nd May from 2.00-5.00pm. So get yourself along to Sandwick and enjoy a feast of Cakes, Scones, Bannocks, Sandwiches, Fancies and lots of other sweet & Savoury delights….you might be able to pick up a bargin at the same time!
We are in need of a few more willing volunteers to help bake, serve and work in the kitchen, as well as to help with the Bring & Buy sale. So if you’re free on Sunday 22nd May and think you can cut it in the world of the Sunday Tea’s – contact me through the Contacts section of the website, or on our facebook page.
Best wishes – Jim
